Medicinal preparation (drug) is a natural or synthetic substanceMedicinal preparations (drugs) are natural or synthetic substances in a liquid or solid dosage forms (capsule, tablet, solution ointment, etc.). They are used to prevent, diagnose and treat diseases.

As rule, medicinal preparations have a strictly selective and more targeted effect. They give a fast effect in many cases. But sometimes it is difficult to foresee which effect can be in the case of a combined intake of different medicinal preparations; whether they are compatible or one can neutralize, reduce or multiply a therapeutic effect of another. The combined use of biologically active supplements and medicinal preparations is permissible, but it is recommended to consult a doctor before.

In taking some drugs there is a risk of overdose and side effects.


What are antibioticsAntibiotics are natural or semisynthetic substances suppressing growth of living cells or killing them. There is a wide range of broad- and narrow-spectrum antibiotics.

Antibiotics are not absolutely safe and are not a cure-all solution. They should be taken only in infections caused by bacteria and some parasites. Antibiotics kill off not only pathogenic bacteria, but normal ‘defensive’ bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract, vagina and on the skin. In some cases they can promote developing another infection, e.g., thrush.

But in most common virus diseases antibiotics are useless.

Unfortunately, people take antibiotics in any ailment (cold, headache or cough) unreasonably and without doctor’s prescription, although everybody knows that antibiotics should be taken under advice and supervision of a physician.

Antibiotics can cause side effects such as allergies, diarrhea, rashes and nausea. Some side effects are quite common and not serious, but some of them can provoke a severe allergic reaction or demand long-term treatment.

One more serious problem concerning antibiotics is antibiotic resistance, when pathogenic bacteria adapt to new conditions, mutate, and become resistant to some antibiotics, especially in the case of overuse of antibiotics.

 Antibiotics should be taken only upon doctor’s recommendations and under medical supervision. Otherwise, a paradoxical situation can happen: there are a large number of the powerful drugs, but none of them can be effective against bacterial infections.

What is phytotherapyMedicinal herbs are raw materials to make various remedies used in phytotherapy. About one third of medical products are produced from plants; many synthetic drugs contain some components originally obtained from medicinal plants as well.

Medicinal plants have their advantages and disadvantages.

They are widely spread and available, have multilateral and combined therapeutic effects on the human body because of presence of various active agents in the same plant.

But active agents (substances) are unevenly located in plant tissues and it is difficult to determine the quantity of every therapeutic active agent in them. Moreover, the chemical properties and composition can vary depending on habitat and weather conditions. Herbs easily lose their therapeutic effects in wrong drying and storage conditions.

There are other factors which should be taken into account when choosing: hypersensitivity to some plant agents, slower therapeutic effect compared to drugs.

Before using medical plants for disease prevention or treatment, consult your doctor and learn the main properties of the plant, how the plant can influence on arterial pressure, intragastric acidity, blood clotting, which microelements (vitamins) the plant contains and so on. The control of plant treatment should be based on not only personal well-being but on the results of clinical analysis.

In some cases treatment only with the herbs without medicinal preparations is impossible.


Food additives are natural or chemically synthesized substancesFood additives are natural or chemically synthesized substances, which are used with food. Additives added in small amounts in food enrich a product with taste, flavor, or colour. Salt, sugar, baking soda, pepper and various baking powder, stabilizers, conservatives, etc. are generally referred to additives.

Most of people confuse supplements with food additives. A biologically active supplement is a substance or complex of substances. It is an additional source of micronutrients such as microorganisms, extracts and/or herbal concentrates. Biologically active supplements are not medicinal preparations, they are remedy to support or restore health; whereas food additives make food taste richer.


What are probioticsProbiotics with strains of bifidobacteria (Bifidobacterium) and lactobacilli (Lactobacillus)

Probiotics are live microorganisms, which are intended to normalize and compensate for beneficial gut microflora.

Mainly most of probiotic preparations contain various strains of bifidobacteria (Bifidobactericum) and lactobacilli (Lactobacillus). Bacteria of Lactococcus spp. (including Streptococcus thermopillus) and yeast Saccharomyces are also used, but less.

Both beneficial microbes (main of them: lactic acid bacteria — Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium) and opportunistic pathogenic bacteria live in a human gut. When the latter become more active and produce toxins, which make a body weaker, the former neutralize them and produce substances which do not give pathogenic bacteria to multiply. Such balance is necessary for the organism to work correctly and for immune system to protect properly.

When a person takes antibiotics or antimicrobial agents, keeps a rigorous diet, overuses fattening food or he/she is under stress, the part of the beneficial bacteria perish. The rest of them can’t prevent effects of toxins and inhibit the rapid development of disease-causing microorganisms. The balance has been broken and as a result dysbacteriosis occurs; the body resistance decreases. So, to restore the balance of gut microflora the different preparations and milk-sour products with bifidobacteria and lactobacilli are recommended.

It should be taken into consideration that some lacto-and bifidobacteria containing in preparations and products perish when they are going through the acidic environment in the stomach and alkaline medium in the duodenum. Probiotic properties of some products can be easily destroyed by heat treatment, adding preserving agents and stabilizers, as well by a high concentration of lactic, acetic acid and others in yoghurt or kefir.

One more important point should be mentioned. Strains of lactobacilli and bifidus bacteria are part of the normal intestinal microflora, but they should get acclimated in the intestine of a new host. For the manufacture of probiotic preparations the strains of required bacteria are isolated from other host-organisms, so there is a risk of their perishing in a new host’s body.


Probiotic preparations with Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens and Bacillus licheniformis

Our preparations contain dry bacterial mass of live spore-forming bacteria of strains Bacillus amyloliquefaciens and Bacillus subtilis modified by plasmid.

The Bacillus subtilis stimulates producing interferon alpha-2 with antiviral, antiproliferative, immunomodulatory and antitumoral activities. It provides the immune status correction regardless a cause of immunodeficiency, different levels of the immune system (local mucous membrane immunity, humoral immunity or general immunity) being normalized.

The strains used in our preparations don’t perish being under the action of gastric juice or bile acids, high temperatures, ethanol, and other environmental factors, which are considered dangerous for probiotic microorganisms; having a spore structure they are invulnerable. Our strains have been specially «trained» to awake in a specified location and under specified conditions.

The isolated strains of Bacillus are easily adopted and acclimated in the intestinal microflora of a human host. Having performed the required tasks (to suppress opportunistic bacteria, to clear some space for host beneficial microflora, and, thus, to create the right balance of microorganisms for a short period of time, and a number of other significant functions), they are easily and naturally removed from the body.

Unlike preparations with bifidobacteria and lactobacilli involved in the parietal digestion, our strains (Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus amyloliquefaciens) are capable for producing enzymes which destroy all extrinsic and alien proteins, toxins and defective cells. So our natural preparations with therapeutic and preventive actions are recommended in both bacterial and chemical food poisoning (including alcohol and drug intoxication) and in allergic diseases.

Bacteria Bacillus Subtilis and Bacillus amyloliquefaciens produce enzymes with lytic properties and they are able to remove products of ichorization from tissues, and, thus, cell regeneration is stimulated. Therefore such natural bacterial agents are recommended for purulent wound treatment. Bacteria Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus amylicheniformis produce natural protein antibiotics, which possess a strong anti-inflammatory effect in many diseases (tonsilitis, pneumonia, nephritis, cholangitis, etc.). These bacteria being antagonists of pathogenic and opportunistic microorganisms (staphylococcus, streptococcus, salmonella) restore the normal intestinal microflora, eliminate dysbacteriosis and normalize the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract as a whole.

Our probiotic preparations can be used in combination with antibiotics, but different methods and routes of administration are recommended. In serious diseases probiotics are recommended to take along with antibiotics, so as not to miss the time for excessive spread of pathogens.


What are prebioticsPrebiotics are preparations containing the indigestible substances (mostly non-starch polysaccharides and oligosaccharides) in the upper gastrointestinal tract.

They contribute to health improvement in people owing to selective growth stimulation and metabolic activity of one or some groups of beneficial bacteria(lacto- and bifidobacteria) in the large intestine. Passing through the intestine, they stimulate the growth of microorganisms having already inhabited there. Prebiotics are not subjected to enzymatic hydrolysis, not adsorbed in the upper gastrointestinal tract. They are a substrate for lacto- and bifidobacteria inhabiting the large intestine. In more simple terms, prebiotics are ‘nourishment’ for probiotics.

If microflora is completely absent (e.g., in postoperative period) prebiotics would not help.


What are synbioticsSynbiotics refer to nutritional supplements combining probiotics and prebiotics in a form of synergism, hence synbiotics. They colonize the intestine and helps beneficial bacteria to multiply.

Preparations of our product line – Vetom (biological active substances and biologically active supplements), Bioceptin (cosmetic gel), Komarov (powder), Nozdrin (nasal drops) contain strains of bacteria Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus amyloliquefaciens selected according to their certain valuable production qualities. These strains are deposited in the All-Russian Collection of Industrial Microorganisms (VKPM) and the German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures (Deutsche Sammlung von Mikroorganismen und Zellkulturen, DSMZ).

Our preparations are used:
